Event Overview
Join us for a unique and exciting fundraising event where alumni can "adopt" a rugger! This event is designed to support the current SIU rugby clubs during Old Loads Weekend. By participating, you will have the opportunity to connect with current players and contribute to the success of our teams.
We are hosting this event in coordination with the teams as a way for them to utilize Old Loads Weekend for fundraising. In the past, the clubs would host the Saturday night dinner but the Alumni Corporation now coordinates this event.
How It Works
Adopt a Rugger: For a $100 donation, you will be linked with one of our 35 ruggers (9 women and 26 men) who are up for "adoption."
Meet Your Rugger: The adoption includes a meet-and-greet with your rugger during Old Loads Weekend.
Group Adoptions: You can split the $100 donation with other alumni and be paired with a player as a group.
Fund Allocation: All funds raised will go directly to the respective rugby clubs, not the alumni corporation.
How to Participate
Sign Up: Fill out this form with basic information so we can link you up with a player. You can put in a suggestion for a particular player but there are no guarantees. [Link to the list of ruggers up for adoption]
Donate: Make your $100 donation (or split it with other alumni).
Meet Your Rugger: Sometime during Old Loads Weekend, you will need to link up with your rugger and send a picture of proof to Dawn!
If you don’t get a chance to sign up for a rugger before the weekend and there are still unadopted ruggers, we will pair you up during the weekend.
What exactly does meeting entail
Need a ride from the Marion airport? Maybe adopt a rugger that has a car and is willing to pick you up. Feeling artistic and want to express yourself through art? Draw them a picture. Other suggestions include taking your rugger to breakfast or lunch.
It is up to you and the rugger. The minimum requirement is to meet up and have a conversation. The right thing to do would be to buy them a beer. We would like to get a picture of you and your rugger to promote the event and capture the memories.
This is not a hazing event. You will be denied participation if you mistreat people and you will not get your money back.
Additional Information
Fund Management: Dawn will be collecting and managing the funds and passing them off directly to the clubs.
Donation Guarantee: If you pay to adopt a rugger and your rugger does not show up or participate, you will be given the option to take back your donation.
Contact Coordination: Dawn will also be coordinating contact information so both parties can easily get in touch for the weekend.
